Alumni Over 50

In response to alumni requests for a wider variety of events, the Toronto Branch of Queen’s University Alumni has established an Over 50 group. Based on the results of a survey of alumni who graduated prior to the late 80s, this small group has hosted several successful events which include receptions for the Principal and the Provost, two behind-the-scenes tours of Queen’s Park and a version of the Last Lecture by Professor Vincent Sacco. Current plans include a private tour of the Art Gallery of Ontario followed by a wine and cheese reception. Invitations to speak sometime during the winter months have been extended to Peter Milliken, a Queen’s alumnus who was the Speaker of the House of Commons and to Professor Nick Bala of the school of law. It is anticipated that Professor Bala will reprise his Mini-U presentation entitled “Responding to Cultural Diversity in Regulating Adult Relationships: Polygamy and Sharia in Canada”.

It should be noted that while these events have been planned and hosted by the Over 50 group, they are open to all Queen’s alumni in Toronto and have drawn a wide cross-section of alumni. Anyone interested in working with the planning group should contact Kathy Owen, Arts ’67 at kathyowen@rogers.com
